DTN COMMENTS: Light trade is being reported in parts of Kansas at midday 
at $184, $2 higher than last week's weighted averages. Some producers in 
both Kansas and Texas continue to hold out for higher money closer to 
current asking prices of around $186-plus. Asking prices for cattle left 
on showlists in the North are around $296-plus following the last two 
days of light to moderate business at mostly $295, $1 higher than the 
prior week's weighted averages. 

Today's slaughter totaled 119,000 head, 6,000 greater than last week, and 
2,000 more than a year ago. Saturday's kill is estimated at 20,000 head, 
bringing the weekly total to 619,000 head, 6,000 above the prior week, 
but 2,000 less than 2023. Cattle futures closed mixed, mostly modestly 
higher on live contracts, up 67 to off 12, feeder issues also ended the 
week mixed, mostly modestly higher, up 17 to off 47. Beef cutouts are 
expected to close higher with light to moderate box movement.
