Risk Management
Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association offers risk management services through our main Baraboo office. Helping producers mitigate price risk at a profitable level is one of the office’s main goals.
Risk Management Services Include:
- Livestock Risk Protection (LRP) Insurance
- LRP is a federal insurance program for livestock producers designed to protect against market price declines while giving the producers the choice of where to market their livestock
- LRP offers solutions to protecting your operation against unexpected declines in market prices for feeder cattle, fed cattle, and swine.
- Flexible coverage
- No minimum head requirements
- Insure up to 52 weeks out
- Coverage levels from 70-100% of ending values
- No up front cost to insure

- Finished cattle contracting
- Our staff works with producers to secure contracts on finished Holstein, Holstein Cross, and Native cattle for up to 18 months out at no upfront cost. Equity staff further assist producers by scheduling harvest dates, analyzing result summaries, and keeping an up-to-date list of existing contracts.
- Get the best basis for your cattle contracts
- When contracting finished cattle through Equity, several contract and basis options are available and our experienced staff can help ensure that producers receive the best available options suitable for their production style.
- Forward contracts on feeder cattle
- Our staff can work with producers to create private treaty contracts for future delivery dates enabling producers to lock in prices for full and partial lot loads based on contract criteria.
- Forward contracts on lean hogs
- Equity services lean hog contracts up to 1 year out for hog producers that would like to reduce their exposure to market volatility.
- Projections
- Whether producers are experienced with livestock, or are looking to start something new, our staff can help to set budgets and profit goals unique to each producer’s livestock operation. Also, our field staff can visit farms to view livestock and help producers determine when stock is ready to market.
